Our Food Hubs

About our Food Hubs

Our Food Hubs are core to our mission of getting good nutritious food out to individuals and families in need. NZFN Food Hubs are organisations working on the frontline to help provide crucial food support to our most vulnerable. They include food rescue organisations, charities, iwi and marae.

Our work depends on this reliable network of Food Hubs and our model works by strategically selecting organisations that help to extend our geographical reach with the greatest efficiency.

Currently, NZFN has 65 registered Food Hubs nationwide. These Food Hubs have the capability to accept bulk palletised food and have established relationships within their communities. Acting as a central point within a region, they help to move food out to many communities within that area, including the more isolated and remote areas.

Food from NZFN adds to the valuable service each Food Hub is already offering by adding volume as well as variety to their food provision service.

Some of the benefits of working with NZFN
  • Greater variety of food and essential items
  • Opportunity to procure food: For organisations with budget to spend on food and essential items, NZFN offers a bulk purchasing service. This enables food support organisations access to a better quality of food and nutrition at a better value thereby spreading precious funding further
  • When food becomes available for donation, Food Hubs have the ability to draw down stock from the Food Hub Portal as/ when needed
  • When a Food Hub is offered a bulk donation from a local donor that they do not have the capacity to store, NZFN can process the donation on your behalf, ensuring your organisation gets the volume you can handle and then NZFN distributes the rest further out into the community

Our Food Hub & Distribution Centre Locations

NEXT STEPS

Interested in becoming a Food Hub?

At NZFN we deal with bulk surplus donated food and therefore require our registered Food Hubs to be able to handle and store ambient, chilled and frozen product by the pallet load.  We also require Food Hubs to be able to forward donated food to other local organisations when required.

When onboarding new Food Hubs, capacity, reach into the community and relationships with other organisations are all taken into consideration.

In order to apply to become a Food Hub you must first be able to meet each of the below requirements:

  • Can move/process multiple pallets of incoming goods
  • Can store fresh, frozen, chilled and ambient product
  • Have other sources of food (NZFN will not be a sole supplier)
  • Ability to pass food onto smaller organisations in the region (if required)

If you feel your organisation is well placed to become a Food Hub, please feel free to email us with some information about your organisation (capacity to hold pallets, how many people you support/feed weekly, how long you have been established etc).

Suitable organisations will be sent a registration survey to help us understand further in detail your location, handling capacity, the services you’re offering and the number of people you’re supporting each week/month.

As our model is based on efficiency throughout the network, where there is already a NZFN Food Hub in your geographical location, our first suggestion is to see if you’re able to receive food from them.

We will communicate with you from there to assess whether your organisation is suitable to become part of our Food Hub network.

Please contact us.

At NZFN locations, we do not provide frontline food parcels or support. We are set up to provide bulk surplus food to smaller charitable organisations. Please refer to our list of Food Hubs to find one nearest you or visit Family Services Directory to find a foodbank in your local area.

The first step is to contact us with some information about your organisation (capacity to hold pallets, how many people you support/feed weekly, how long you have been established etc).

Suitable organisations will be sent a registration survey to help us understand further in detail your location, handling capacity, the services you’re offering and the number of people you’re supporting each week/month.
