Volunteers packing food boxes in NZ Food Network food rescue partnership warehouse operations

TAURANGA, New Zealand – Lineage Foundation for Good (the “Foundation”), the independent philanthropic arm of Lineage, Inc., the world’s largest global temperature-controlled warehousing REIT, announced a USD $10,000 grant to New Zealand Food Network (NZFN) to support its food rescue and support efforts. The funding will help strengthen NZFN’s ability to move surplus food to communities in New Zealand, helping reduce waste and improve food access.

Food insecurity remains a persistent challenge in New Zealand, with NZFN’s 2025 Hunger Monitor showing one in three households experienced some form of food insecurity in the past year. At the same time, quality surplus food is generated across the supply chain that can be redirected to New Zealanders in need. Through partnerships with producers, manufacturers and logistics providers, NZFN works to ensure surplus food reaches 64 food hubs nationwide rather than going to waste.

The grant follows a recent collaboration between Lineage and NZFN that redirected surplus frozen vegetables after routine sampling identified cosmetic irregularities that meant the product no longer met commercial sale specifications. With customer permission, Lineage worked with NZFN to coordinate collection and redistribution, resulting in more than 1,000 pallets being distributed through NZFN’s network, equivalent to approximately 635,000 kilograms of product.

“The Lineage Foundation for Good is proud of our team members who support New Zealand Food Network and the essential work they do to fight food insecurity,” said Hannah Hoskins, Executive Director, Lineage Foundation for Good.

Mary Jane Rika, Operations Supervisor at Lineage in Tauranga, added: “Through targeted grants and collaboration with partners across the supply chain, we aim to help redirect surplus food to communities that need it most.”

“Lineage is committed to reducing food waste in line with our purpose of helping feed the world. NZFN moved quickly to help us ensure this high-volume surplus was able to be transitioned into secondary food channels. We offered complimentary storage while logistics were coordinated for distribution, and it was a positive end result. We were able to reduce the surplus for the customer, minimise waste, and get the food to communities who needed it.”

NZFN’s National Partnerships Manager Sophie Percy said the organisation is incredibly grateful for the support provided by Lineage Foundation for Good.

“Working with industry partners such as Lineage Foundation for Good allows New Zealand Food Network to continue our work to move surplus food where it is needed most. Strong partnerships like this are critical to improving food security outcomes across New Zealand.”
